Using social media in support raising
Post & Repost: Most people are on social media at concentrated times throughout the day. So be strategic about the timing of your post. If you are sending information at 2am it will not be received. Think about the times you find yourself on social media. For most people it is on their lunch break, around 3pm and somewhere between 5-7pm. These are your key times to post short updates about the status of you support and a link to click on.
For example:
- Initial post
Hey everyone. I have been given the opportunity to serve with Africa Inland Mission this (summer, year, etc.) and would love to have you partner with me. Here are three ways you can pray for me (Preparation, spiritual strength, direction, etc.) and if you’d like to financially partner with me you are only a click away (insert link to giving site).
Note: it is always good to list your total goal ($5,000, $10,000 etc.) and then break it down for people: if 100 people give $100 each, or 10 really generous people give $1000 I will reach my goal!
- Follow up post
Thank you so much for all those that have sent in support. I am at 50% of my support already! God is good! If you’d like to support and haven’t had the chance click here: (insert link) and be sure to check out
Do
- Share your story as you work towards getting to the field
- Post links to your giving site and share support raising successes and anything about how God is working
- Share your story while you are on the field
- Post/update on a consistent basis (once a week/once a month etc.)
- Tag Africa Inland Mission in your posts and updates
Don't
- Take photos without permission
- Share details about specific ministry locations (especially for creative access workers)
- Google a random AIM logo and brand things yourself (We have a department for that)
Hashtags/Tagging Examples
#AfricaInlandMission is our main hashtag that will tie back to the organization. Hashtags (just as a reminder) are just categories for social media posts. When we look up this hashtag we can see who has posted about us. We want to use this one for any tweet referring to the organization.
Lunch with candidates @aimusa today! #AfricaInlandMission
#ReachTheUnreached is our end goal. This hashtag would most likely follow any social media posts that focus on our goal and the more people use this in association with the work of AIM the more this hashtag will draw attention to us. The cool thing about this particular hashtag is that this year at Passion, and the CROSS conference simulcast, as well as many of the major conferences, are all focusing on unreached people groups but none of them use this hashtag...because we have been using it the most J So the more people talk about unreached in all the major conferences, the more it is likely we will have people at the top of the funnel.
Our goal is to bring the gospel to those who haven’t heard before #ReachTheUnreached

#ConnectWeek15 is the hashtag we and our missionaries will use during any of the weeks that we have candidates here for Connect Week in 2015. Just sort of a way to unify any pictures we take or posts we do while they are here.
Spiritual Warfare Session today #ConnectWeek15
#OurAfricaJourney is the hashtag we want our appointees to use. Andy will be encouraging them to share their story both in preparation for the field and on the field. As people use social media and the hashtag "Our Africa Journey" they will be able to connect to other missionaries and see their stories too. This would also be a unique way for all of us to see their stories and journeys to know how to pray for them.
Our prayer letters just arrived! Now to share at church #OurAfricaJourney
